A large number of projects are underway at any one time. Most of these are related to maintaining the infrastructure and rolling stock used to operate the line. However, a key activity for the Trust are projects aimed at extending facilities.
This page provides links to more information on some current Trust projects. All these projects are dependent on securing new funding and attracting the volunteers needed to help bring them to fruition. Contact information is provided with each project. Details of many other projects are given in the sections on each department.
Project Herston
Apart from Wareham and then Swanage there was only one other station on the original Swanage Railway, and Herston was not one of them!
Purbeck Mineral & Mining Museum

The Isle of Purbeck has a rich mineral history and once boasted a substantial network of narrow gauge lines to convey Ball clay to both rail and sea links. One of these lines was the first railway in South West England. The Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum Project seeks to establish a visitor and exhibition centre located at the former Norden Ball Clay Works.
Project Wareham
The Swanage Branch was traditionally well served with both local and direct services to London. The loss of the rail connection was particularly significant in area with limited road links. Project Wareham is the name given to the Trust's activities aimed at re-establishing a connection to the national rail network and regular services to Purbeck.
